With regards to olive oil facial cleanser, it seems that the dust has not yet settled. If you search the internet, you can find claims and testimonies that either praises or belittles the benefits of olive oil in facial cleansers. To help you make a decision, here are some of the important things to consider.

What is olive oil? The Wikipedia definition of olive is a fruit oil obtained from the olive, which is a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. Among its many uses are for cooking, soaps, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and fuel for traditional lamps.

As a side note, it was just interesting that when I tried to look at Korres, a beauty and skin care manufacturer from Greece, there was no olive facial cleanser in their lineup.

From the scientific and nutritional point of view, olive contains monounsaturated fat. In simpler terms, it contains a lot of "good fat" as opposed to saturated fats which are primarily found in animal sources. So, does this mean olive oil is pure goodness?

If olive oil is good, what is it good for specifically? As mentioned, since it contains a lot of good fat, taking it in the diet raises the good cholesterol in our body, and is therefore good for our heart and our arteries. It is also claimed to be tolerated by the stomach well, has good effects on ulcers, and lowers the incidence of the formation of gallstones.

Going back to our discussion, cleansing is a basic and usually the first ritual of facial skin care. In my opinion, a good facial cleanser is supposed to contain no preservatives or scents, no alcohol and yet can wash away dirt, makeup, and oil but doesn't dry the skin at all. It is usually lathered and washed with water.

So, how can an olive oil facial cleanser remove dirt, makeup, and, well, oil? The trick is in the method. Instead of washing the face with water and a facial cleanser, one uses an oil cleansing method. The olive oil is applied to the face and gently rubbed. Then a hot moist washcloth is placed on top of the face for a few minutes to open the skin pores. Afterwards, the washcloth is used to rub the oil off the face.

Now there are lots of people who swear by the benefits they get from an olive oil facial cleanser. According to them, it is a gentle cleanser that can rejuvenate the skin and leave it soft and smooth. It is best for dry skin, retains essential moisture, and has no allergic reaction or side effects.

On the other side of the fence, there are those who states that olive oil may have lots of good fats but it does not have any cleansing properties. It is best used only as a moisturizer to soften dry skin. The amount of olive oil contained in an olive oil facial cleanser is not adequate enough to bring its benefits and the presence of other ingredients cancels whatever beneficial effect it may have.

This is what I know. Olive oil is best included in the diet for its proven benefits for the heart and blood vessels. It has antioxidant properties and balances the omega 3/omega 6 levels in our body when taken by mouth. However, an omega-3 with DHA supplement just does about the same.

If you are serious on skin care, there may be other products that you should be looking at. A breakthrough ingredient from New Zealand called Cynergy TK which repairs, regrows, and strengthen the skin has so far only believers and no detractors. In as early as three weeks, you can see the evidence for yourself.

If you can test this for yourself then maybe you can put the trial on hold whether to use an olive oil facial cleanser or not for now. In the meantime, why not enjoy a healthy salad with extra virgin oil for recess.

I need a good smelling face cleanser/moisterizer for sensitive skin?

I'm allergic to acne medicines (salycitic acid and benzoyl peroxide ect.) but does anyone know any good smelling face cleansers that aren't heavy or greasy?

st ives apricot scrub works really well...or just use plain old Dove soap. Dove is for ppl with sensitive skin and has a nice clean smell.
