Sold ultra high index lenses. Did I get ripped off?
I have -2.5 cylinder astigmatism in both eyes and no sphere correction. I recently went for my eye exam and was sold glasses with high index (1.74) lenses because they were strongly recommended to me by the optician. They said that polycarbonate lenses are terrible and would give me cloudy and distorted vision. I have been going to the same place for many years. The things I have been reading on the internet indicate that I may have been over-sold on these high index lenses for my prescription. Did I get ripped off? The frames were spendy, but the total package cost over $700.
Unfortunately it looks like you have been ripped off. You don't need 1.74 index for your prescription. a standard lens with coatings would probably have been just as good. even a 1.6 plastic lens would have been ok. there was no reason for you to have your lenses thinned that much.
I would go back and complain that you were ill advised. nobody should ever "strongly" recommend a 1.74 lens for your prescription. you were given wrong information so you may be entitled to a refund. I would definately look into this further.
All the best
